Welcome back to the last week of trimester one!  Time passes so quickly and I want you to enjoy the moments before they slip away.  This week we will travel to Saint Rita High School for a wonderful retreat on Thursday, November 18th.  The neighborhood schools will also be participating.  On Friday, November 19th report cards will come home.  Please take this opportunity to talk with your child about the wonderful things going on, and maybe what we need to work harder on.

In reading this week, we will read our newest story called "The Camera Does Lie" which is about how professionals can make the unreal seem real.  We will watch a few different videos on how this magic happens.  We will work on vocabulary and comprehension questions along with our plot pyramid.

In language, we will work with correlative conjunctions and dictionary skills.

In writing, we will finish up our conclusion and peer edit to try and find mistakes.  Our final paper should have information on what your ocean animal looks like, their habitat, what they eat and who/what is a threat to them.

We are coming to the end of our first trimester!  We have covered quite a bit, and there is more to come.  This week will finish out our novel and begin Unit Two in our HMH book.  I have also given the kids their new book report for trimester two.  They are to choose a historical fiction book which I need to approve.  They are making a quilt of information.  They have the directions, and this will be due November 30th.

In reading our new story is called "Heartbeat".  This unit takes us into figuring out what is real and what is fake. Getting back into the routine of vocabulary and questions and tests at the end.

In language we will work on subject/verb agreement, who gets the "s"..We are also going to discuss how to use context clues.

In writing we are just beginning our informational essay on an ocean creature.  We have done our research on their appearance, and their diet.  We also searched for information on where they live and who might be a threat.

My  hope is to end this trimester strong!
