Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Week of May24th

Posted on May 23, 2021

We only have three weeks left of 7th grade!  Time has flown by so quickly.  Soon the 8th graders will be handing down the role of being leaders of the school to you!!  You need to take this new role very seriously and show the world how wonderful Saint John Fisher really is.

This week in reading we will continue to explore space with a free verse poem and a video from NASA.  Both of these will continue our space exploration unit with new ideas and facts about what is really out there!  We will go over the different types of poetry and go over an essential skill of listening.

Don't forget that this week is The 8th grade Ribbon Mass on Thursday and The Walkathon for our teachers on Friday!  There will be nonstop action happening at SJF or the next couple of weeks, so hold on and enjoy the ride!!!

Week of May 17th

Welcome back to a full week of school!  We are in Unit Four of our Literature Book, and this whole unit is dealing with space.  Last week we talked about Mars, and the possibility of trying to colonize it.  This week we dig into specifics of the challenges that lie ahead for space exploration.  We are going to talk about author's purpose.  Why are we reading all of these stories??  This week we will work on persuasion.  We will make a claim(our viewpoint on this issue), and we will use different tones and voices to make our argument.  We will also look into the use of repetition in our argument.  We will also work on our vocabulary words, our bellringers, and finally on the proper ways to use a comma!  As you can see, we have a full week ahead of us.  Please check in with your children to make sure they are all caught up with their assignments.  I have had to put in quite a few F's when work is not handed in...

Happy Monday!  We have lots to do this week, so let me get started.  We are going to finish up our novel The Outsiders and work on all of the vocabulary and the comprehension questions.  We are also working on our character autopsies in our small groups.  On Wednesday, our small groups for IReady will work on main idea.  We are also going o sneak in different types of sentences this week as well.  Don't forget that Friday is our Maycrowning for our 8th graders, so it is a half day of school.  The Maycrowning will be live streamed to all of the classroom, so we can watch safely!
