Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Week of August 30th

Welcome back to our first full week of school!  We are going to start off strong and continue to get stronger...In reading, we read our first story called Rogue Wave, and we will work on the plot pyramid that goes with the story along with the questions.  On Thursday, September 2nd, we will have our first test on the story.

In language, we will work on different kinds of sentences; simple, complex and compound.  We will work with worksheets and create our own on the board.

In writing, we are starting out with what a personal narrative is.  We will identify all of the elements on a graphic organizer and annotate a narrative that I will provide.

We will also start our Bellringers this week!  Each day is different; Monday is our Greek/Latin root word, Tuesday is the picture of the week(inference), Wednesday is fixing the grammar in the sentences, Thursday is the word of the week, and finally, on Friday we have our quote of the week.

I know this sounds like a lot, but we've got this!!  I will go slowly with the students until they get the flow of my classroom...

Welcome Back to School for our 2021-2022 school year!  Seventh grade ELA is going to be a little different from years past.  We will still focus on our Into Literature book, but we are also going to work with a program called Simply Writing to help us become better writers.  We are also going to throw in a few more surprises that we worked  on this summer!!!  So be prepared to have fun while we are learning, but be ready to work hard.  Please make sure you have completed your summer reading packet and have that with you on your first day of school.

Looking forward to meeting all of you on Wednesday, August 25th:)
