Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Posted on Apr 25, 2022

Welcome back from a lovely Easter break!  I hope that everyone had a chance to sleep late and laugh and relax.  This week we are going full force ahead.  Our eggs that we are raising arrive tomorrow afterschool and 21 days later,(Hopefully) we will have live chicks to brighten up our classroom...

In reading, we are still reading our last novel, The Outsiders.  This week we will read chapters five through nine and work on the vocabulary and the comprehension questions.

In language, we will review subject/verb agreement within our novel.

In writing, we are going to work on different aspects of figurative language.

Week of April 11th

Welcome to Holy Week.  We have worked really hard to be the best we can be.  This is a short week because we only have school on Monday and Tuesday!!!  Our Memoir Book Report is due on Tuesday, April 12th.   We are having a prayer service with the whole school on Tuesday as well.

In reading, we continue to read The Outsiders.  We have read the first two chapters so far and will read the next two chapters this week.  We will of course work on the vocabulary and the comprehension questions as well.

To all who are traveling, be safe!  To all staying put and resting, enjoy.

Week of April 4th

Welcome back after a very busy weekend in the gym!  This week we have an early dismissal on Wednesday, April 6th with a 1:00 dismissal.  Teachers have a meeting. Also, our memoir book report is due Tuesday, April 12th.  We will start our last novel, The Outsiders at the end of the week.  I only have a class set, so if your child wants to bring the book home, maybe take it out from the library or get it on Amazon.

In reading, we are finishing up Unit Three in our HMH book.  This last story is a compare/contrast between persuasive media (movie) or a poster about saving our beaches.

In language, we will practice more with figurative language.

In writing, we just finished our arguments on which invention was the best.
