Mrs.Carole Scannell Junior High Reading/Language - 7th

My name is Mrs. Carole Scannell and I am the 7th grade ELA teacher.  I have been a parishioner for more than twenty years, and been involved in a few church activities.  I have taught at a few different schools in the area, but look forward to my new adventure here at St. John Fisher.  My five children are all graduates of St. John Fisher which brings me great pride.

Week of February 24th

Posted on Feb 24, 2020

It is hard to believe, but February is almost over and so is our 2nd trimester!  Friday, February 28th is the end of trimester two, it is also the day that ourr Formal Book Analysis is exceptions!

This week in reading, we will finish up our short story "The Lottery" and move onto our last novel  which is "The Outsiders".  We will revisit the movie about the Lottery and compare the short story with the film adaptation.  We will also watch The Giving Tree and compare what that author was trying to get the reader to understand.  In starting "The Outsiders", we will go through the different characters we will meet and the setting.  In language, we are working with adverbs this week.  Adverbs go along with the action of the sentence and ask three questions; how, when, and where about the actions.  In vocabulary, we are starting Unit 8 this week.  We will have our introductory story and then begin all of the different exercises.  In writing, we are wrapping up the formal book analysis.  We created 31 note cards in class, now the students have to transfer that knowledge into paragraphs and put their paper together according to the rules given out. This is due on my desk this Friday, no exceptions!
