Mrs. Daryce Nolan, Music

What to expect in Music Class

Music is graded his year.

        1. Weekly in class assignments

         2. Participation and behavior

If/When we go remote, classes will be held according to the regular schedule.

All assignments will be posted on Power School and can be found in your child's music classroom.

My main goal is to broaden the musical experience of each student by providing listening and video experiences in the vast  musical world. I am encouraging the students to work to have an open mind and heart when listening and experiencing new and music that is outside their realm. I also require them to critique music and have a working understanding of the elements of music, instruments of the orchestra and vocal parts.  It is perfectly fine that they express their  opinions positive or negative as long as the opinion can be backed up with the vocabulary and knowledge they have learned.

We have studied so far this year:

The Elements of Music; Melody, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, harmony, timbre and form.

Instruments of the Orchestra : Woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion .

Voices: Soprano, alto, tenor, bass

Music History: Mozart, Britten, Mussorgsky

Grade Six music is less academic and concentrates on a first time introduction to listening to instruments and voices, identifying  sounds and the  elements of music .
