Last Week School

Hello Summer

Dear Parents,

As I write our FINAL Blog for the year, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for each and every one one of you and all my little friends.  This year was quite a crazy year, but we all worked together to make it happen!

Today, we cleaned out our lockers and part of our desks.  They can keep everything at home that was sent home today.

Next week, we will be reviewing and doing many fun activities to end our last week of school!  Also, attached is a final school countdown for activities that will be happening everyday.

Please reach out if you have any questions!  Have a safe, fun & enjoyable Summer!

Catholic Schools Week

This week is a very busy week considering Catholic Schools Week & celebrating the 100th Day of School.  During the week, we will have a variety of fun activities to do.  On Friday, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school.  A note went home on Tuesday that First Grade can dress up like they are 100 years old.  I can not wait to see everyone! Also on Friday, our class will be going to the book fair.

This week to focus on Catholic Schools Week, the entire school is putting a twist on No Homework.  Each day your child can pick a Random Act of Kindness from the calendar that will be coming home.  Then, we will reflect & discuss how random acts of kindness make a difference.

Week of September 16th

Posted on Sep 13, 2019

I know the kids have been looking forward to Fisher Fest all week!  I can not wait to hear about the Fun time they had!!  This week, they have been great!  We continue to work on our routines and procedures while new things have been introduced into our daily routine.

Homework Calendar-  Just a reminder, I will collect all completed work on Fridays.  The homework calendar is a guideline of what needs to be completed by the end of the week.  I am flexible and do realize homework is practice.  I also realize that they have been working all day.  Therefore, they may come home and be able to do it or maybe they come home and would like to work on half and then complete the other half the next day.  They do need homework for extra practice, but I do not want it to be stressful for them or for you. Therefore, collecting the homework on Fridays hopefully allows flexibily with your child's learning, schedule, & continuing re inforcing skills.

Math-  We will be skipping to Chapter 3 to start addition strategies then returning to Chapter 2 to start Subtraction Concepts.

Week of September 2nd

Posted on Aug 30, 2019

The First Week flew by.  We have been very busy in here.  We continue to work on our “ Class Expectations as a class!” Also, the importance of following directions, which is a challenge for these little ones.  So, give all your children a big high five this weekend for their effort!

We were busy in here :  coloring, cutting, gluing, printing, drawing, waiting patiently to talk, listening, dancing, moving around & playing.  In your child’s folder is their weekly work.  This week there is quite a few worksheets in there.  We have been reviewing our skills & working on our fine motor skills.  The Daily 5 Stations (reading & writing skills) have also been introduced. We will continue to rotate as a class.   As time goes on, we will continue the Daily 5 Stations & Centers will slowly be introduced too.  We are working on staying on task and working independently.  As days go on, more time is added.  I am a firm believer that children need to move, see, touch and get involved in learning.  So as time goes on, some weeks there will be quite a few papers in folders others weeks maybe one or two.  This means we have still covered the material but at Centers.  Here,  I reinforce our skills with materials, games & worksheets laminated so we could use them as dry erase boards.  This gives the children an opportunity to move, practice skills along with learning to take care of materials & organizational skills.  I am a mover so we will be  movers!  LOL!!

Week Of January 21st

Posted on Jan 22, 2019

On Friday, we read a story about Dr. Martin Luther King.  We then discussed our Goals and Dreams for 2019.

Spelling:  Starting this week, Spelling words have increased from 6 to 10 spelling words they will be tested on.  We practice printing and reviewing our list daily throughout the week.  We practice printing them 3x each, in spelling sentences, on dry erase boards, in the writing center by stamping them or using magnetic letters to spell them and playing sparkle or a spelling bee.

Reading:  We begin a new Unit this week.   One of the concepts that will be  Introduced is ABC Order, words end with “ED” & magic e Long A.  We will be working together on ABC Order the next couple of weeks.

Also, a homework sheet will be handed out on Mondays. Please have your child complete the assignment.  It will be Due on Thursdays.  They will have a few days to complete the sheet if needed.

Math- We continue to use extra math to practice our math facts.  Each day that we did mad minute math, I did notice an improvement with the students recalling their math facts.  This is another way for them to challenge themselves to increase their math facts as the weeks go on.  We talked about, it is a challenge for yourself, not a race against the class.

Silent Reading- “A Good Fit Book”  We have been focusing on picking a “Good Fit Book” & reading it daily for 5-6 minutes during Silent Reading.  I am so proud of the independent readers they are becoming.  I have noticed some children cannot keep their nose out of their book.  This is awesome!! Week of October 22nd-26th

Our field trip to the Children’s Farm was FUN!  It seemed all the children had fun.  We learned about many different farm animals. Had the opportunity to pet and hold them.  End with a fun hayride and pick your pumpkins.  Thank you to all the parents, who came along to chaperone.

Halloween:  An email was sent home with information regarding our Halloween Party.

Math, Sight word, & Spelling Test from last week will be sent home this Wednesday:  The Math test we did together.  This chapter had  challenging concepts that we covered and worked on together.  While taking the test, I did  project it on the board so we can do it step by step together.  The importance is mastering the concept and skill.  Therefore, I read the test and reworded where needed .

EXTRA MATH:  Everyone received their pin numbers.  This is an extra app on your tablet or website for extra practice to master their addition facts.  When they complete their addition facts, a report is sent to me.  They will receive a certificate and move onto subtraction.  If you would like to practice at home or looking for different programs to master their addition facts this is a website they can do.  I do try to do it once a week in class on the ipads.

What another fun week in 1st grade.  We worked really hard to make Wise Choices.  We worked extra hard on waiting our turn to talk & talking over others.  We earned an extra recess on Friday by everyone getting on purple Thursday.  The Pep Rally was super fun!!

Please remember to send in your child’s permission slip and money for the farm field trip.

We have been really focusing on reading and writing.  We continue to work on the Daily 5.  We have also been word doctors by picking apart short vowel words to understand the CVC rule.  We made a sentence buddy.  We have been practicing journaling.  Journaling is anything that comes to mind.  I want them to just express their thoughts and ideas on paper.  Do not worry about the spelling or neatness yet.  In a few weeks, we will start working on editing our work with a sloppy copy, editing and into a final copy.  Slowly, step by step, we will work on these skills.

We continue to use our “Making Wise Choices” behavior chart.  Starting next week, the boys and girls will bring home the color their name was on at the end of the day on a calendar.  Below I put a description of the color and what it means.

Meet the Teacher

Posted on Sep 07, 2018

Hi! My Name is Mrs. Judy Vittori. I live in Orland Park with my husband Chris, 4 children ( 2 girls & 2 boys) & our dog. I enjoy being with family & friends. I will be your child’s 1st grade teacher for the 2018-2019 school year! This is my second year back as a First grade teacher.  I taught Kindergarten here from 2000-2004.  From 2004-2007, I taught Kindergarten at District 96 in Riverside.  I decided to stay home with my children in 2007.  Over the years, I volunteered as a CCD Teacher and substitute.  I am excited to be back in the classroom and make this another fantastic year at SJF!!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!
