Week of December 17th

Wow! Can you believe it’s only a week until Christmas. This weekend I took the boys and drove around to see all the wonderful Christmas lights. They were so excited to see some of the over the top displays. It reminded me to slow down during this busy time and take it all in. I hope you and your families have a wonderful Christmas and the kids enjoy their break.  We have a fun filled, busy week in 117 before Christmas break. For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

  • On Monday the Mother McAuley Acapella will be performing a brief show at 1:20

  • Friday is a 12:30 dismissal. Cookies and milk will be served please send your child with a small snack as we will not have lunch that day

  • Friday 11:30 Christmas prayer service all are welcome.

Math- We will working on Chapter 5:subtracting 2 digit numbers.  Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child. Being fluent in addition and subtraction problems will help the students be successful. Practicing flashcards at home, apps on the ipad or playing Math Reflex online are just some examples of how to practice.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: kick, cook, cake, cave, kiss, look, sick, rock, lock, luck, beautiful, together, great, even, and become.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each.

Reading- The students will be reading A Good Laugh for Cookie and Moonbear’s Pet. The students should read Moonbear’s Pet for homework on Wednesday. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points. The students need to have taken and passed 3 AR tests by the end of this week. If they have not I have written a note in their planner and the students are also aware.

Religion- We be finishing up our unit on Advent. We have officially set the date for First Reconciliation for second grade. It will be February 27th, 2019 at 6:30 pm. A letter was sent home in folders last week that included more details, but if you have any additional questions (or need an additional copy of the letter) please let me know!

Language Arts- We will be finishing our Would you rather be one of Santa’s reindeer or elves? paper.

Social Studies- We will be finishing on a unit on Christmas’ around the World
