Week of September 10th-13th

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We have another short week this week with Fisher Fest coming up. I’m sure all the buzz will be about what rides everyone will be going on. Also students may dress in red, white, and blue on Tuesday for 9/11.

  • No School Friday, September 14th

  • On Wednesdays I ask that parents please sign their child’s planner

  • Language Arts Unit 1 test Wednesday

  • Math Chapter 1 test Thursday

For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

Math- We will be finishing up Chapter 1 and having our Chapter 1 test on Thursday.  We will be reviewing as a class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: stop, nod, pond, doll, lot, spot, cot, log, fog, dog, through, would, very, their, and should.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each. We will be having our Spelling test on Thursday.

Reading- The stories this week are The Green Leaf Club News and Three Little Bikers. The reader will go home on Wednesday please have them read Three Little Bikers for homework. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points.  Along with our weekly quizzes, we will also be doing 1 extended response question. The children and I will be doing these together for a while.  You will start to see the acronym SLAM. Last week, the quiz children did was practice and did not count for a grade. I will be grading this week’s quiz.  Accelerated Reading will begin in October. More details to follow. Students should also be reading 15 minutes a night.

Religion- We finished up Chapter 1 and began working on Chapter 2: Baptism. We have started talking about the different symbols and about their own Baptisms. The students have the Act of Contrition stapled in their take home folders. We ask that you please practice this at home each night as they need to learn this for their First Reconciliation.

Language Arts- We have finished Unit 1 and will be having a Unit 1 test on WEdnesday. I will be reviewing with the class Monday and Tuesday.

Social Studies- We will continue working on Unit 1; Where we live

Please feel free to email me kade@sjfschool.net with any questions. Looking forward to a great week ahead.
