Mrs. Karen Ade, Second Grade

Hello! My name is Karen Ade. This is my 2nd year teaching at Saint John Fisher and I'm very excited to be working with your children in second grade. I grew up on the SouthSide and attended Queen of Martyrs and Mother McAuley High School. I love the Cubs, Notre Dame and pretty much all sports. I have three boys who all attend St. John Fisher. Ryan is in 4th and my twins Sean and Brennan are in 2nd.  I can't wait to meet all of you and I look forward to a very exciting year!

Week of Janaury 28th

Week of January 28th

The last week of January is finally here.It was so nice to see so many of you at open house yesterday. I’m truly blessed to teach such wonderful children. This week is Catholic Schools week and we have many fun activities planned for the kids. For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

 

  • Wednesday students may dress down if they bring in applesauce or fruit for Ronald McDonald House

  • Friday is our field trip to Disney on Ice. Please have the students wear gym clothes and bring a brown bagged lunch

 

Math- We will continue Chapter 6 today: adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers.  Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child. Being fluent in addition and subtraction problems will help the students be successful. Practicing flashcards at home, apps on the ipad or playing Math Reflex online are just some examples of how to practice.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: foxes, wishes, boxes, glasses, dishes, boys, birds, girls, boats, eggs, large, wash, says, ready, and today.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each.

Reading- The students will be reading Treasure Pie and Bruno the Baker. The students should read Bruno the Baker for homework on Wednesday. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points. The students need to have taken and passed 4 AR tests by the end of this week for the month of January.

Religion- We be working on preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation. The date for First Reconciliation is February 27th, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Language Arts- We will be finishing our unit on Verbs. We will have a test on Thursday. The study guide will go home Tuesday

Social Studies- We will begin Unit 4: Identifying and learning the functions of government

Week of January 22nd

Week of January 22nd

I hope you had nice and relaxing long weekend. If your child wears boots to school, remember to pack their shoes in their book bag so we can keep the classroom floors dry. Even though it’s short we have a busy week. For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

 

  • Dress as your favorite scholar, teacher or wear your favorite high school or college attire on Wednesday for a small donation

  • Next week is Catholics Schools Week. We will kick off the week with 10 AM mass on Sunday followed by open house

 

Math- We will be starting Chapter 6 today: adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers.  Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points. The students need to have taken and passed 4 AR tests by the end of January.

Religion- We be working on preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation. The date for First Reconciliation is February 27th, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Week of January 14th

I hope you had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the snow we got. I guess we can finally say winter is here. If your child wears boots to school, remember to pack their shoes in their book bag so we can keep the classroom floors dry. For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

  • No School Monday, January 21st

 

Math- We will be finishing Chapter 5 today and we will be having a test on Thursday. Study guide will go home Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child. Being fluent in addition and subtraction problems will help the students be successful. Practicing flashcards at home, apps on the ipad or playing Math Reflex online are just some examples of how to practice.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: fly, clean, sleep, free, grade, drive, train, tree, please, slow, ago, better, head, idea, and still.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each.

Reading- The students will be reading Hear the Cheers and The Great Ball Game. The students should read The Great Ball Game for homework on Wednesday. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points. The students need to have taken and passed 4 AR tests by the end of January.

Religion- We be working on preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation. The date for First Reconciliation is February 27th, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Week of January 7th

Week of January 7th

Happy New Year! I hope all of you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and were able to enjoy the long break. Thank you for the generous class gift. I am truly blessed to work with so many wonderful kids. I am sure we will have some sleepy kids today as we get back into the swing of things in room 117. For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

  • Special Lunch is on Wednesday

 

Math- We will continue working on Chapter 5:subtracting 2 digit numbers.  Please continue to practice addition/subtraction with your child. Being fluent in addition and subtraction problems will help the students be successful. Practicing flashcards at home, apps on the ipad or playing Math Reflex online are just some examples of how to practice.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: mask, sack, boat, lime, spy, sheet, jail, ray, tea, and gold.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each.

Reading- The students will be reading Winter Fun and The First Month. The students should read both stories for homework on Wednesday. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points. The students need to have taken and passed 4 AR tests by the end of January.

Religion- We be working on preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation. The date for First Reconciliation is February 27th, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Language Arts- We will be starting our unit on Verbs.

Social Studies- We will be working on be able to tell the difference between a producer and consumer. We will have a test on Unit 3 tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday.
