Mrs. Karen Ade, Second Grade

Hello! My name is Karen Ade. This is my 2nd year teaching at Saint John Fisher and I'm very excited to be working with your children in second grade. I grew up on the SouthSide and attended Queen of Martyrs and Mother McAuley High School. I love the Cubs, Notre Dame and pretty much all sports. I have three boys who all attend St. John Fisher. Ryan is in 4th and my twins Sean and Brennan are in 2nd.  I can't wait to meet all of you and I look forward to a very exciting year!

Week of August 26th

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had an awesome first week. Everyone did great in the heat the first week of school. I was so happy to meet so many new smiling faces. I look forward to getting to know you all better. I ask that each Wednesday you sign their planner.

  • No School Monday, September 2nd, Labor Day

  • Open House Wednesday, September 4th

For the rest of the week, the info to know is as follows:

Math- We will continue working on Chapter 1; Number concepts; place value, expanded form, etc.. We will have a timed test on addition and subtraction facts sometime this week to asses the students knowledge. We will repeat this test 3 times a year to measure student’s progress.

Spelling- The Spelling words for this week are as follows: as, ask, fan, sat, sad, fat, cap, map, bat, and hand.  If children use capital letters inappropriately, or write letters backwards, the word will be marked wrong. Homework on Monday is 4X each.

Reading- The stories this week are Franny and Ginny and Daddy, Can I have an Elephant?. The reader will go home on Wednesday please have them read Daddy Can I have an Elephant? for homework. Every Friday, the kids will take a vocabulary/comprehension quiz that I will take for a grade out of 10 points.  Along with our weekly quizzes, we will also be doing 1 extended response question. The children and I will be doing these together for a while.  You will start to see the acronym SLAM. Students should also be reading 15 minutes a night.

Religion- We will continue working on Chapter 1: how are church welcomes us. The students have the Act of Contrition stapled in their take home folders. We ask that you please practice this at home each night as they need to learn this for their First Reconciliation

Language Arts- We will be working on types of sentences; exclamatory, declaration, imperative, and command.

Social Studies- We will continue working on Unit 1; Where we live

Please feel free to email me kade@sjfschool.net with any questions. Looking forward to a great week ahead.
