A Message from Mr. Gibson regarding September 11th

My name is Michael Gibson and I am the new 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies teacher at St. John Fisher.  I want to take a moment to get the word out for a fundraiser we are holding in conjunction with the 19th Ward on September 11th.

We are working with the Ward and other schools in the area to have a memorial installed at King Lockhart Park  on 106th and Western Avenue in honor of the First Responders who traveled to NYC following the attacks.  Pieces of steel from ground zero have been donated by the NYFD to the City of Chicago, as well as to the family of Herbie Johnson, who tragically passed away in the line of duty in 2012.

The steel has been crafted into a sculpture (click here to see photo 1  and photo 2) and we have been asked to help secure funding to install the monument at the park. This project is a unique opportunity to display a piece of American History in our own backyard, while highlighting the contributions made by many Chicagoans.

As a school, we will be collecting funds for a Patriotic Dress-Up Day for each student who makes a cash donation on September 11th. Students can be out of uniform in red, white and blue (no costumes please).  Additional donations from families will be gratefully accepted.  Checks can be made payable to St. John Fisher School.

Please address questions to me at mgibson@sjfschool.net. Thank you all and God bless!
