Preschool Parents

Dear Preschool Parent,

We wanted to share some important information regarding the first few days of preschool.

Full Day

Our experience proves that having a few shorter days of the beginning helps our youngest scholars adjust to the full day with minimal tears.  In order to ensure a smooth transition for all, there will be a half day of school for full-day students on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (August 21-23) with dismissal at 11:30.  On Thursday and Friday, (August 24 and 25) full time students will be here for the whole school day.

Part Time

Part time morning preschool for five day students begins on Monday, August 21.  The day begins at 7:50 and ends at 10:45.  Part time morning pre-school for our three day students begins on Tuesday, August 22.  Because the entire school has a half day session on the first day of school, Aug.21, afternoon sessions for both the three and five day students begins on Tuesday August 22.  (11:30 am-2:20p.m.)

All full and part time students arrive and dismiss from the red door in the convent building, directly across from the school playground.

Parents are most welcome to walk their child into school on his/her first day. After a few minutes, your child’s teacher will ask the parent to give their child a hug and kiss and quietly leave the room.  (There will be lots of toys and other exciting places to discover, so even if there are a few tears, we are confident they will vanish quickly.)  We can promise that departure may be more difficult for you than for them and in after a few days the students will be skipping into school with no hesitation.

If your child will be picked up by someone other than Mom or Dad, please send a note in your child’s folder or in an email letting us know who to anticipate.  Please also be patient with us for a few weeks as we learn your names and faces to ensure each child is being picked up by the correct caregiver.  Each child’s safety is our number one concern.

You will be receiving a short preschool supply list.  There is no rush to have everything the first few days of school.  Each child will need a backpack (large enough to hold school mail/projects), a sturdy folder and a small drink/snack each day.   Full day pre-schoolers will need both a snack and a lunch beginning on Thursday, August 24.

We would also appreciate if you could send a change of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks) during the first few days of school.   Please put the items in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name.  This emergency outfit will be available in case of a rare “accident” or spill.

We thought it would be helpful to also share a few general school announcements:

  1.  You should have received the invoice for “book day” last month.   That payment is due in full on or before Monday, August 14.  Our paperless book fee plan allows you to pay on line, mail your payment, or stop in at the school office.  To pay online, simply go to our website, scroll to the bottom of the page and hit “online payments.”
  2. You will receive an email from the school on August 17, telling you your child’s homeroom and teacher assignment.

Although the summer has been all too short, we are looking forward to a great year.  Our Aspire Scores from last Spring arrived last week and we are very pleased with the results.  Math scores continue to improve and our Language Arts scores affirm we have many strong readers and writers.   We are delighted to welcome four new faculty members who bring both experience and enthusiasm to their new positions.

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, Aug. 24 when the Family School Association will sponsor the back to school skating party on the parking lot.  Please also remember that Sunday, August 27, is the Parish picnic.  Details on both events will follow.

The countdown is on but there is still time to enjoy the wonderful days of summer.
