Friday Thoughts April 20 2018

What a week it has been!

No doubt your children came home singing “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” after attending the Drama Club’s production of Mary Poppins. The production is Broadway quality with delightful singing, dancing, and staging. What a showcase for some amazing student talent and faculty direction. Mr. O’Neill, Ms. Browne, and Mrs. Caffrey, with the help of several other faculty members as support staff, produced a musical theater experience that the cast will never forget. If you are reading this before 7:30 tonight, there is still time to see the show for the finale performance.

The musical talents of our band were also evident at a matinee performance on Tuesday. The fourth grade Junior Band members have officially moved to be full-fledged members of the Senior Band.

The brain trust in the building also grew significantly this week as students in grades 3-8 took the ASPIRE tests. I was proud of the seriousness with which the students approached the tests and am confident they will do well. Although, as was indicated last week, the tests are a single snapshot of student performance on a particular day, results of the test also help drive our curriculum evaluation and strategies for improvement where necessary. Students who were absent this week will have an opportunity to complete the tests next week.

We were privileged to send a group of Falcons, (primarily the “kids on the McNicholas’ block”) to the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the Maeve McNicholas Playground at Beverly Park yesterday. Mayor Emanuel’s remarks were a compassionate tribute to the amazing work that Maeve’s parents, Denise and Matt, have done for this community as the best possible way to honor Maeve’s memory.

Thanks to our partnership with the nursing school at St. Xavier, more than half of our faculty took CPR training after school this week. Next week, a group will take a class on the use of epi-pens in the school Remember that our mini- clinic will close for the summer at the end of May, so if you are planning to use their services for your school or sports physicals, now is the time to make an appointment.

We are all saddened by the news that Carson’s is closing all of its stores. If you want to take advantage of the upcoming sales, double your savings by purchasing the remaining MANNA cards. Gift cards are still accepted during the close-out sales. If your shopping allegiance needs to switch to Macy’s, we also have a number of those cards available for summer savings.

The Countdown to Communion is in here. Our second grade saints in the making are ready for this very special day in their lives, the lives of their families, and the entire Fisher Family. If ever you have even a small doubt about the hope and potential each child holds, be sure to stop by Church next Saturday at 11:00. It is a grace filled and memory making day.

Final tuition notices will be sent this week. Please do your best to be sure that your tuition account is paid in full on or before May 15.

Please get your May lunch orders in.  Meals are available through June 1st.

Thank you for your interest in our School Board.  We have some excellent applications.   If you are still interested in applying for the Board, please send in your application by next Friday, April 27.

Spring seems to have Sprung.  Enjoy!
