Friday Thoughts 10/19/18

Happy Friday!

Today we had the All School Mass with our prayer buddies.  It was so touching to see the little ones being guided by their older prayer buddies, who are clearly their new role models.  Dr. Chermak and the students did a wonderful job preparing for this mass.

November lunch menu is open to order.   Kindergarten has a field trip on November 8th so kindergarten parents, be sure not to order a lunch for your child on November 8th

Next Wednesday, our fifth graders will visit the Chicago Fire Academy, Holy Name Cathedral, and Queen of Heaven Cemetery in a very informative field trip on the historic Our Lady of Angels fire.  This event will be presented by Dr. Mike Stritch who has been a wonderful source of historic knowledge for our students.

Also on Wednesday, our eighth graders will have their Confirmation retreat.

Heavy boxes filled with baby bottles full of change were transported to the office today.  Thank you for your generous support of this fundraiser. Funds raised with support the Women’s Center of Greater Chicagoland.  If you forgot today, it’s not too late to turn them in on Monday.

Next Friday, October 26th, SOAR will be hosting a fundraising event to raise money for the Chicago Diabetes Project. This organization strives to find a cure for diabetes and any donation that we make will help them get one step closer! Colin O’Neill, a former teacher here at SJF, will be running the New York City Marathon in November. He is running and raising money for the Chicago Diabetes Project, so we will be forwarding our donation to the project to him. We are suggesting a $1 donation from each student. Please bring this donation to school on October 26th and in return you will be able to dress down that day. Your help on this project is greatly appreciated.

Calling all pumpkin carvers! All students and families are welcome to join in on some fun. SOAR will be hosting a pumpkin decorating contest this year. Our theme for the contest will be favorite book or movie characters.  If you wish to participate, please bring your carved pumpkin to Kane Hall on Tuesday, October 30th – anytime between 7:30 and 7:50am. Winners will be notified the following week.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Internet Safety event here on October 29 at 7 p.m.  We are pleased to welcome Liz Repking, a well-known cyber-safety consultant.  This event is a coordinated effort of SJF and surrounding schools, and we look forward to learning more about keeping our children safe.

The holidays are around the corner, so be sure to stock up on manna!  Don’t forget, credit cards are now accepted, so you can double your cash back bonus! Click here for a printable order form.  Manna will be sold at the convent from 8:30-9:30 a.m., and in the church foyer after the 4 p.m. mass, and again on Sunday after the 10 a.m. mass.

Have a wonderful weekend!
