Friday Thoughts 11/16

Dear Parents,

Winter arrived a bit early this week with the unexpected snow.  The first snow of the school year is always cause for some great excitement among the students.  There is more snow in the forecast this weekend, but Sunday should be clear.  Please join us for the 10 a.m. mass.  The eighth grade confirmation class will be officially introduced to the parish community in the Confirmation Commissioning Mass.   Eighth graders and their families should sit together near the front of the church.   The mass challenge continues; so we hope all families will join us for one of the weekend masses.

Today is the last day to donate groceries for Thanksgiving dinners for the impoverished families in Robbins. Food items or cash donations can be dropped at the rectory today, and will be delivered to Robbins tomorrow.

It was great for our students and staff to be recognized this past Monday by Superintendent Jim Rigg. Dr. Rigg interviewed several staff members about recent SJF activities. Topics included our Veterans Day events and the development of our SJF Academic Team. Please take a few minutes to listen to the interview (SJF feature is 12 minutes in).

Regarding next week’s schedule:  We have a short week next week, with 11:30 dismissal for students on both Monday and Tuesday.  Conferences will be held in Kane Hall, so please enter the Kane Hall doors off the rectory driveway. All junior high students are expected to join their parents for the conference.  If you haven't yet registered for a conference, click here to do so.  Extended Day will be available from 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days in room 107.  Students can be picked up at the primary doors under the bridge.  Students should bring a lunch to Extended Day and a change of clothes if they would like to get out of their uniforms.

On Tuesday, the fifth grade students will present the school Thanksgiving prayer service at 10:30 a.m.  All are welcome.  The parish Thanksgiving mass is a favorite and will be held at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.  Our fifth graders and our children’s choir will be featured, along with our parish and guest musicians.

On the topic of Thanksgiving, it is important that we send a great big THANK YOU to the parents and grandparents of our students, for the countless things you do for our teachers and school.  Our teachers and staff are so grateful for the Teachers’ Breakfast each month, for your volunteer work as a room parent, a special lunch volunteer, a math helper, a coach, a club leader, for three of our grandparents who volunteer one full day a week in our resource room … the list goes on and on.  Most importantly, thank you for partnering with us to provide the best education possible for your children.  Have a beautiful Thanksgiving.
