On Saturday, August 25, 2018, we sadly announce the passing of Father Thomas J. Purtell, beloved associate pastor (1979 – 1984) and pastor (1984 – 2003) of Saint John Fisher Parish.
Father Purtell was a hero in our parish school and a strong proponent of Catholic education. He knew the families and children well, as had presided over their baptisms and married many of their parents. He was a lively presence in our school and parish, and supported the teachers in their work. His encouragement was a blessing.
He will be dearly missed. His fidelity to God, his commitment to his priesthood, and his boundless love for his parishioners – many of whom he knew my name - were a great blessing.
As a school and parish community, we find solace in remembering Father Purtell knew how deeply we appreciated his presence in our lives.
Our parish has a new saint in heaven.
Thank you, Father Purtell, for your many years of service to our Church, especially the Saint John Fisher Parish community, which you immeasurably enriched by your priestly ministry.
