SJF/SXU Nursing Partnership

Dear Parents,

Attached please find a letter explaining an exciting new partnership we have with St. Xavier University. One of the offices in the convent building has been converted to a “mini-clinic” that will service our students and be staffed by students and faculty in the nurse practitioner program at the university. As indicated, a nurse and university instructor will be here on Monday-Thursday each week.

In addition to addressing the needs of students who become ill at school, the nurses will be available for pre-school, fifth grade, and high school physicals. They will also be available to do sports physicals. If inoculations are required, the nurses can provide a referral to the St. Xavier campus clinic where the shots are available at a minimal cost.

We are not equipped to have students stay in the “clinic” for the entire day and still need to have the number for a reliable person who can come if it is determined the child needs to leave school. We also need to contain what experts predict will be a difficult flu season by reminding you not to send students to school if they are not feeling well. If they have been home sick, they cannot return to school for at least twenty four hours if they have had a fever or have vomited.

We are very excited about this new partnership and are very grateful to our friends at St. Xavier who have made it possible.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to call.
